John Byrne

A professional celebrant who is friendly and obliging towards all people using a sense of humour, personal attributes and skills to remove most of the stress from the ceremony.

About Me

Following my appointment by the Attorney-General of Australia in 1995, I have conducted 3000 wedding ceremonies. I get great satisfaction when performing all the varied duties of an Authorized Celebrant and being able to liaise with all types of people.

Celebrancy is the best job I have ever had and being 70 years young, life and ceremonies couldn't be better. It is a great feeling being a part of one of the happiest days in the life of the bride and groom and their families.

I am not a serious type of person but I do not tell jokes during a ceremony - I see the job of a celebrant, is to conduct the wedding ceremony in a thoroughly happy and relaxed atmosphere but at the same time with dignity and meaning. I strive to maintain a balance between the formal and personal aspects of the ceremony.

I am a member of the Association of Authorized Celebrants of Victoria, an organisation that demands a very high standard of quality and excellence from its members.

I provide the Bride and Groom with many choices of ceremonies for: introductions, readings, vows, rings, giving away, askings, tying the knot, cultural customs. Other ideas include; appreciation certificates for flower girls and page boys, background history of the bride and groom and introduction of the bridal party to the guests.

All of the above can be incorporated into a personal ceremony.

I have had the pleasure of officiating at ceremonies in almost every wedding ceremony venue in Melbourne and surrounds: parks, gardens, beside rivers, hot air balloons, wineries, restaurants, beaches, racecourses, football grounds, private homes, private gardens and wedding chapels.

What makes a good Celebrant?

A Celebrant should always:

  • act in a thoroughly professional manner at all times
  • be friendly and obliging towards all sections of the community
  • value human relationships - particularly the marriage relationship
  • have a very high standard of presentation and dress
  • have a sense of humour
  • use style and confidence to deal with all persons involved on the day
  • remove most of the stress from the ceremony
  • reject his own importance: he should know his place

Please feel free to contact me, obligation free, to chat about your big day.
